The environmentally sensitive design will include eelgrass conservation, low-impact stormwater strategy and daylighting of natural drainage along riparian corridors. As part of the environmental clean-up, twelve 2-million gallon tanks will be removed from the hillsides.

The property was once home to the world’s largest winery, the California Wine Association, before Prohibition shut it down and the U.S. Navy bought it in 1941. Plans for the property include a rehabilitation of the historic Winehaven District, which will be updated with shops, restaurants, expanded waterfront park, 3 miles of trails + expanded Bay Trail for hikers and cyclists and an Ohlone interpretive center.
